In 1994 former ECW owner Paul Heyman nicknamed Benoit "The Crippler" after he accidentally broke the neck of fellow wrestler Terry Brunk, stage name Sabu.  Over the course of his career, Benoit held several wrestling titles, including World Heavyweight Champion, World Tag Team Champion, Intercontinental Champion, United States Champion, WWE Tag Team Champion, WCW Tag Team Champion, WCW Television Champion and ECW Tag Team Champion.

"Two things you immediately notice about Chris Benoit, 1) he's a man of few words, and 2) he's one of the greatest technical wrestlers alive," reads a paragraph of his bio on the WWE Web site.  "Family and friends have always described him as 'quiet' and 'soft-spoken,' but his fellow WWE Superstars know better; they know that once Benoit steps inside the ring, he turns into the Rabid Wolverine, whose bite is infinitely worse than any bark."

According to several Internet fan Web sites, Nancy Benoit was best known by her WCW (World Championship Wrestling) stage name "Woman."  During her 23 years in the wrestling business, Nancy worked as a model, entertainer and most recently as a manager for a number of wrestling superstars, including Ric Flair, Kevin Sullivan and Rick Steiner.  Nancy gave birth to Daniel on February 23, 2000.  Two days later she married the father, Benoit, on February 25.

Since news of the deaths were made public, wrestling fans and armchair detectives alike have been discussing possible motives and scenarios on Internet blogs and in live chat rooms.  Some claim an extramarital affair triggered the murders, while others claim Benoit suffered from a momentary loss of sanity.
