The severity of the infant's injuries ultimately required that he be airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.  Police have not identified the child or his mother, and as of this writing, his condition is not known.

There is not much personal information on Wamsley's MySpace.com profile, but as the saying goes, the devil is in the details.  There are numerous references to drugs, and in the photo section, there are several photos of Wamsley posing with guns.  In one photo, there is a poster from one of the titles in the popular, but controversial video game series Grand Theft Auto.  If you browse through his friends list, you will find that many of Wamsley's friends have similar profiles, glorifying sex and drugs.  Some appear to be wannabe gangbangers.

I do not want to give you the impression Wamsley's profile is connected to his alleged crime, because as far as I can tell, it is not.  However, it does lead one to wonder whether his parents or the parents of those on his friends list ever bother to screen their children's online activities.  Before I started writing for Crime Library, I was never an advocate for censorship or parental monitoring, but the more I write about cases where those types of preventative measures could have made a difference, Stephanie Gestier, Jodie Gater, Carly Ryan, etc., the more my stance begins to change.

In this particular case, it is hard to say if monitoring Wamsley's Internet activities would have made a difference.  If he is sexually attracted to young children, he might have been using his computer to view child pornography.  If he had and his parents had been paying closer attention, they could have taken appropriate action.  There is a possibility the rape was a crime of opportunity, but something tells me it goes deeper than that.  Hopefully, investigators were sensible enough to seize the family computer.
