When police spoke with Hull's relatives, they learned he had recently lived in rural Mille Lacs County. On Friday May 4, a Minnesota State Patrol flew over the vicinity, and the pilot spotted a suspicious area of ground near a gravel pit that showed evidence of fresh digging. The following day, crime scene investigators were dispatched to the area, and within hours, they uncovered a shallow grave containing charred human remains. The Anoka County Medical Examiner's Office used dental records to identify the victim as Lewis Wilczek. According to preliminary autopsy results, Lewis died from homicidal violence.
On Thursday May 10, Jeremy Hull was charged in Mille Lacs County District Court with three counts of second-degree murder in Lewis's death. Judge Steven A. Anderson ordered Hull held in Stearns County Jail in lieu of $1 million bond. According to the court complaint, Hull murdered Lewis then burned and buried him in the makeshift grave. Hull's next court appearance is scheduled for May 22.

Lewis was interred Saturday at St. Mary's Parish Cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Paul and Sharon Wilczek, a brother, Paul Wilczek Jr., and two sisters, Norine Wilczek and Lori Wilczek.
