NORWALK, Conn. Crime Library — In March, Crime Library brought you the story of Albert W. Hsu, 43, a prominent businessman who was arrested for impersonating his mistress and posting an ad on the internet requesting someone abduct and rape her. For the last two months, Hsu has been held at the Bridgeport Correctional Center on a $1 million bond.
On May 9, Hsu's attorney, Richard Bello asked Stamford Superior Court Judge Robert Devlin to lower Hsu's bond. Bello argued that his client needed a more affordable bond so that he could seek professional treatment for manic-depressive bipolar disorder.
"Extensive diagnostic tests need to be done to get to the bottom of this medical and psychological problem," Bello said in court. "When you read his letters of recommendation, when you understand Mr. Hsu's background, he's an individual who is super bright, yet he stands before the court arrested for a horrendous crime and a $1 million bond. How do you understand that?"

The state prosecutor objected to a reduction in bond, claiming it would be difficult to monitor Hsu's activities if he lived out of state. He also said Hsu was receiving treatment and medications behind bars.
"Given the plan here, I'm simply not assured he would come back for trial," the prosecutor said. "I believe he's being treated ... It looks like he's taking his medication and doing well."
