SAVANNAH, Ga. (Crime Library)  —  On March 20, officers with the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department responded to a 911 call from the Laurel Lodge Apartment complex at 5013 Ogeechee Road.  According to the caller, a child at the residence had been throwing up blood and was unconscious.  When authorities arrived on the scene, they were directed to a mobile home behind the apartment complex that had been divided into two units.

When the officers stepped inside unit 11, they quickly turned their attention to 2-year-old Quawee Lee.  According to the occupants of the apartment, Shonna Johnson, 27, and Joe Johnson, 29, Quawee had suddenly started vomiting blood, and then became unresponsive.  When paramedics arrived, they rushed Quawee to Memorial Health University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

During questioning, the Johnsons told police that they had been babysitting Quawee since the previous evening, when his mother's boyfriend dropped had him off.  They claimed to have no knowledge of the child's bruises and neither could they explain how he had received his injuries.  When asked how to get in touch with Quawee's mother, Shatoya Lee, 26, the Johnsons said they did not know how to contact her.
