The Tippecanoe County Coroner's Office announced today that the body found was indeed that of Wade Steffey.  Steffey was apparently trying to enter the Owen Hall dormitory to retrieve his coat when he was fatally shocked entering the utility room.  Authorities said it appeared he tripped and fell onto a power transformer.

Purdue Police Chief Gary Evans notified Wade's parents, Dale Steffey and Dawn Adams, both residents of Bloomington, of the discovery yesterday afternoon, and they both traveled to Lafayette to await a positive identification.  The university provided both parents with a place to stay overnight, and they also made a grief counselor available to them.

On the evening of January 12, Wade went to a party at the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity house.  He was last seen talking on his cell phone around 12:30 a.m. on January 13 in front of Owen Hall, about 50 yards away from the outside entrance to the utility room.  He was reported missing two days later.

In January, Dale Steffey told The Herald-Times that someone knew what had happened to his son and that he hoped they would start talking.

"Whoever has knowledge of what happened to Wade, it will be found out," Dale Steffey said. "It would be better if they come forward sooner rather than later."
