What exactly led authorities to the suspect is not yet known; however, on March 2, the New Canaan Police Department arrested Albert W. Hsu, age 43, of 139 Beech Road, New Canaan. The following day, the police department issued the following press release:

"...On March 2, 2007 officers went to Hsu's home at 139 Beech Road and arrested Hsu without incident. A search warrant had also been obtained and was executed shortly after Hsu was taken into custody.

"Albert Hsu was charged with trafficking in personal identifying information, attempted kidnapping-first degree, attempted sexual assault-third degree, reckless endangerment-first degree, criminal impersonation, and harassment- second degree.

"Hsu's bond has been set at $750,000. He will be arraigned at Norwalk Superior Court on March 5, 2007. All case documents relating to this investigation have been sealed by Norwalk Superior Court."

On Monday, Hsu was arraigned before Judge Barbara Bellis at state Superior Court. During the brief proceeding, Special Deputy Assistant State's Attorney, Ricki Goldstein, asked that the court increase Hsu's bond to $2 million dollars.

"The defendant set the victim up to be abducted and raped by a complete stranger," Goldstein said. "There is an admission; there was a confession to police officers."  Goldstein also said Hsu was taking subscription psychotropic drugs and that he should be considered suicidal.

While the prosecution argued to have the bond raised, Hsu's lawyer, Deputy Assistant Public Defender, Dawn Bradanini, asked that the judge lower Hsu's bond to $250,000 "based on the lack of history of a serious nature."
