Jackie, who is also a nursing student at Chandler-Gilbert Community College, asked Smith to keep her relationship with Burns a secret. "She didn't know what she was getting herself into," Smith said.
Police are concentrating their search for Jackie along Highway 87 north of the Phoenix metro area. Police said they have information that a rancher saw Burns' red pickup in a remote area near the community of Sunflower, about 40 miles north of Phoenix.

"I believe she had no idea what his intent was," said Gilbert police Sgt. Andrew Duncan at a press conference Tuesday. "We always have a plan for the worst case scenario, but we're hoping for the best. We haven't found a body, so there is still some hope she might be alive."
