WHITTIER, Calif.  (Crime Library) — A decomposed body found on a rugged hillside was identified as Amber Lee Hill, 38, who went missing two weeks ago after finishing the graveyard shift at work, officials said Thursday.

The Orange County Coroner's Office made the identification from a thumbprint that matched her driver's license. An autopsy did not reveal a cause of death because the body was too badly decomposed.

"Right now we're at a standstill," said Whittier police Detective Diana Salazar.

Hill's body was found Wednesday afternoon by a police officer using a cadaver dog in a relatively remote area of the city. The landscape is brushy wilderness with a highway running through it and homes dotting the hillsides. Police were in the area because Hill's driver's license and car registration were found last week about a mile away.

Los Angeles news radio station KFWB reported that the body was wrapped in plastic. Salazar would neither confirm nor deny that fact. But she did say Hill was wearing her work uniform from the Coca Cola bottling plant in Downey, which is about 10 miles away. Hill left there at 6:05 a.m. Jan. 9 and was never seen alive again.
