Online Reactions to Taylor Behl Case

The Heart of the Behl Saga Still Flickers on the Blogs

As the Behl case re-entered the news, the pull of the mystery behind the attractive teen's disappearance and death considered with the tremendous gravity of the crime committed against the Harvey family (and less than a week later, the Tucker and Baskerville family, just over a mile from the Harvey's residence), made for news coverage that reached well beyond Richmond, VA's city limits. Much of it in the mainstream media was simply recapping the known facts of these dramatic cases as well as relating the news that Ben Fawley was now indeed an accused murderer. It was in the blogosphere, perhaps, where true reflections of what people felt could be found. There was the rumor that seemed made to one day be an urban legend; "this girl had a myspace account, and this cute guy messaged her, and they hooked up, and like he ended up really being this old dude, and he kidnapped her and killedher..." And there was commentary like C.F. Kirk's, which ranged from Jonathan Swift-like humor about the perils of Ben Fawley's life behind bars to an almost poetic evocation of the memorial outside the World of Mirth novelty shop, co-owned by murder victim Kathryn Harvey.

One could not necessarily rely on the average blogger for accuracy when it came to the known facts of these high-profile crimes. However, for an understanding of how the death of Taylor Behl, the subsequent indictment of Fawley, or for that matter the Harvey Family murders seeped into the average person's consciousness, pricking their fears and anxieties, it could be that the ever-expanding online world of blogging was the ideal place to search.
