Chauffeur to testify in Phil Spector murder trial

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — Jurors in Phil Spector's murder trial are due to learn more details about the producer's encounter with Lana Clarkson today from the driver who ferried the two to his Alhambra home the night of her shooting.

Adriano DeSouza already has told his story to police and a grand jury.

The Brazilian born chauffeur recounted how he heard a gunshot in the pre-dawn hours of February third, 2003.

DeSouza said he saw Spector emerge from his home holding a gun and declaring, "I think I killed somebody."

But he has never spoken publicly about the events.

His testimony today is considered crucial to the persecution case, and he is expected to undergo rigorous cross-examination by the defense about his recollections.

Spector is accused of murdering Clarkson in the foyer of his mansion. Clarkson died of a gunshot through the mouth. Spector's defense claims Clarkson shot herself.
