NOTORIOUS MURDERS > DEATH IN THE FAMILY

Two in a Million

Dinner Guest

The first indication for investigators that Dana might have had something to do with the murders came when they began to look at those people who had the most to gain from the death of Mr. and Mrs. Ewell. Beyond maybe a few distant relatives, Dana was set to make the most money if his parents died.

His sister, of course, could be considered collateral damage.

Or worse. Part of the planned hit so Dana would be the sole heir.

To think about it made investigators sick.

A kid had murdered his entire family for money?

Over and over, however, as investigators looked at what they had, the target on Dana's back grew into a bull's eye.

Still, when investigators checked out Dana's alibi, it seemed rock solid.

On the night of the murders, Dana was reported to be having dinner in the town of Morgan Hill, 130 miles, or two-and-a-half hours, away away from Fresno, with his girlfriend and her parents.

Besides being so far away with several witnesses putting Dana in the house, how credible was his story?

His girlfriend's father, John Zent, was an FBI agent.
