MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Crime Library) — For nearly a week, investigators in six states searched for Wayne Guay, 57, and his wife Dianne Guay, 55, who disappeared after setting out on a trip from Myrtle Beach to visit loved ones in Queens, New York.  The last time anyone spoke to them was on Wednesday, Dec. 6, when they called their daughter to let her know they would be leaving at 4 a.m. Thursday, for the 12-hour drive.  They never made it there.

By late Thursday evening friends and family members began phoning every hospital and police department from Myrtle Beach to New York.  By Friday they were no closer to solving the mystery, so several family members flew to Myrtle Beach in hopes of finding some clues.  Nonetheless, a search of the home proved futile and nothing appeared to be out of order.

Using money collected from friends and relatives, the Guay family rented a helicopter to help search for the couple and their white 2003 Mazda.  They also put in a call to Tim Miller, the leader of Texas EquuSearch and requested his assistance in coordinating the search.  I spoke with Tim yesterday, just hours before he was set to leave for Myrtle Beach.  "There is no doubt they are in danger," Tim said.  "I just hope they are not the victims of foul play."

"This is foul play - or they're in a body of water or in a ditch, or down a hill or in the woods, someplace we can't see them," Megan Guay told the New York Post.

Wayne and Dianne made the trip on several other occasions and, according to family members I spoke with yesterday, they would always check in once they reached a halfway point.

"We knew something was wrong when they did not call," said Mike Liendo, the couple's son-in-law.  "We don't know what could have happened.  We don't even know if they left their house by themselves.  None of the neighbors saw them leave.  Our concern is that someone may have seen the car full of gifts and perhaps took advantage of the situation."
