Four-day search ends in tragedy

A massive search was launched. A state police helicopter patrolled overhead as members of the local fire department and a water rescue team from nearby Sayre combed the banks and the river for any trace of her. The search ended Monday afternoon when her body was recovered.

An autopsy was expected to be conducted today on her frozen remains, and authorities say it could take weeks before the final result of toxicological tests are returned.

"It's under investigation," Kerrick said. Among the things that authorities are reviewing is Karen Dye's recent arrest on a charge of prescription drug fraud. The woman had been arrested on Nov. 13 and charged with fraud for altering the date on her morphine prescription, which she had allegedly tried to fill at a local Rite Aid pharmacy, authorities confirmed. She was released without bail and that charge was still pending at the time of her death.
