When Shires described it to me, he said the field was approximately three to four acres in size. My first thought was that it made for a pretty large search grid, but then Shires said they were able to pinpoint the last signal to a thirty-foot area. Shires said that the deputies went over the field very meticulously and on more than one occasion. He seemed certain the phone is nowhere to be found. When I asked him how he thought the phone might have ended up in that field, he said the initial assumption was that someone might have thrown it there.
Another mystery in this case is a tidbit found within the police affidavits, which states that Nonnie recently told her mother the military had "done her way wrong." Nonnie's mother adamantly denies this conversation ever took place. This is not the first time I have heard Nonnie was not happy with the Air Force, so I contacted a friend of Nonnie's to see if there was any truth to these rumors. I cannot divulge this person's name, however I can share the response:

"No I never heard her say anything about being displeased with the Airforce [sic]. I do know she was looking forward to getting out in March though and was tossing around moving back to Colorado or somewhere else, she seemed to want to get away from the stress and drama that she had here in Texas. She attempted to get out of the Air Force when her daughter was born to make it easier on her to handle having a newborn, but they wouldn't give her an out. Other than that I have no idea."
So again we have more questions than answers. Perhaps she was upset because they would not let her leave when she wanted. However, if that were the case, why would she still be angry, especially when she only had three months left. Her friend's response also leads us back to another mystery. Everyone claims she wanted to go back to Colorado, however she recently bought a house in San Antonio.
