JACKSON, Miss. (Crime Library) — Robbie Bell, the mother of George Bell III, 33, turned herself in to Hinds County Sheriff's deputies yesterday as an accessory after the fact in the murder of her son's girlfriend, 28-year-old Mary Heather Spencer.

Hinds County District Attorney Faye Peterson told reporters yesterday that Robbie Bell was indicted by a grand jury three weeks ago, but papers were not served until a few days ago. Reasons for the delay were not given, and Peterson refused to discuss the details of the indictment except to say that Robbie Bell is accused of helping her son in Heather's (the victim went by her middle name) murder. Robbie Bell allegedly spent several hours in her home with her son and the victim's body, and she was also in the company of her son during a four-hour police standoff, during which George Bell held a gun to his head.

Heather's family is pleased with the arrest, but they are dismayed by the lack of information being shared with them by the Hinds County District Attorney's office. In speaking with the media yesterday, Heather's uncle, Dale Spencer, said the family knew nothing about the indictment until Tuesday when a reporter approached them with the information.

"When you call in, all we were hearing was we can't disclose anything, we can't say anything," Spencer said in an interview with Wlbt.com.

Spencer said the family has more questions than answers, and the lack of communication on behalf of the district attorney's office has made it difficult to determine the true facts in the case.
