Molfetta detailed how Skylar was incontinent from a motorcycle accident and was seeking to undergo a sex change operation, which would alleviate that problem.

"I know that he did put $500 down for a sex change operation in Colorado," Detective Byington confirmed. "But I don't have any evidence that he had actually begun hormone therapy."

The Deleons lived in the Los Angeles suburb of Long Beach, about 10 miles from Newport Beach where the "Well Deserved" was docked. A neighbor testified in Jennifer's defense that Skylar would come over, asking to try on her dresses. A friend of Jennifer's described her as sweet and caring and Jennifer's accountant testified that she always did things legally. Jennifer did not take the witness stand and none of her family members testified in her defense.

Ryan Hawks, the victims' son, has been a fixture at every court appearance and waited in the hallway outside the courtroom while jurors deliberated.

He appeared on "Larry King Live" as part of a media campaign when the Hawkses went missing, imploring people to come forward with information.  Because the bodies were never found and police needed to prove that the couple was murdered, the complex case took a year to solve.

Now, Ryan said he's somewhat relieved but "our family still lost because two of the greatest people in my life I'll never see them again and neither will all the people they touched."

Ryan said he was always confident that the prosecutor would prevail.

"The evidence is so overwhelming, they didn't have a chance in hell," he said. "It's not a question of 'if,' it's a question of 'when' Skylar will be convicted."
