The Mysterious Murder of Terressa Vanegas

By David Lohr

(Continued)

On Wednesday evening I managed to find Cody Birdwell's MySpace profile.  Through his profile I was able to contact his mother and stepmother.  I received my first response from his mother late Wednesday night, informing me that Cody and Kimberlee had been found in Rusk, Texas.  The two had apparently run away together.  Cody was charged with harboring a runaway child and was placed in the Cherokee County Jail.  Kimberlee was placed in a juvenile detention center, pending transportation home.

I called Cody's mom Thursday afternoon, to try and determine if he had any knowledge of Terressa' murder.  According to her, Cody did not know Terressa' and had only been dating Kimberlee for two or three weeks.  She did however express confusion as to why he ran away.  "He is not the type to do this," she said.  "He was clean and he had a good job.  When he left he didn't take any clothes and he never picked up his paycheck from work."

Cody's stepmom replied to my email Thursday evening.  She reiterated his mother's statements, claiming he did not know who Terressa was.  She blamed Kimberlee for talking him into running away and said he was "thinking with the wrong head."

As of this writing, I have been unable to get in touch with Kimberlee Ramsey's parents.  It is interesting to note that Kimberlee has a history of running away and even appeared on the "Dr. Phil" show last month to talk about the dangers of being a runaway.  During that program she threatened to run away again, if her parents did not let her get married to a former boyfriend.

During a phone conversation with Terressa's  aunt, I learned Terresa liked to frequent the Internet website Dope House Records.  Through her presence there, it appeared to me that she spent a lot of time talking to a 19-year-old man named Ambroso from Abilene, Texas. Abilene is more than 300 miles from the Houston area.
