Suspect Arrested In Slain Illinois Student Case

By Walter Bell

(Crime Library) — Progress is being made toward solving the murder of Illinois State University student, Olamide Adeyooye. Normal Police Department Lieutenant Mark Kotte was true to his words when he said, "We still have a list of persons of interest we need to talk to, and also people we will be re-interviewing."

FBI agents arrested 27-year-old Maurice Lashon Wallace in Atlanta, Georgia. Wallace, a former neighbor of 21-year-old Olamide Adeyooye, is one of the people that law enforcement authorities suspect may be involved in her case.

Adeyooye's missing 1996 green Toyota Corolla was also found in Atlanta. Lieutenant Mark Kotte confirmed that Wallace had been using the victim's car, which the FBI has impounded. Charges against Wallace include criminal trespassing, vehicular invasion, damaging property and vehicle hijacking.

Just a couple of days before Adeyooye disappeared, Wallace was arrested for threatening another woman. Wallace is a known bully with an arrest record dating back to 1994. He has been charged for such violent crimes as battery, criminal trespassing, possession of cocaine and exposing himself to women. Wallace had also been arrested on October 20th by Normal police, on an outstanding warrant for fraud involving multiple identity thefts.

Wallace was known for crashing student parties and entering Adeyooye's Illinois apartment uninvited. Witnesses say that even when her door was locked it could not keep him from entering. They also say that his conversations always ended up with him talking about sex.

Maurice Wallace has waived extradition and will be returned to Normal, Illinois for further questioning.
