TUCSON, AZ (Crime Library) — A body found in Marana earlier this week has been positively identified as Tracy Beth Feltes, a 33-year-old woman who recently disappeared from her home after an argument with her live-in boyfriend, a man police have described as an "investigative lead."

On Monday, a young couple from the 5000 block of West Tangerine Road in Marana was out for a morning walk when they decided to investigate the source of a foul odor emanating from a desert area next to their home. The couple first noticed the smell approximately two weeks ago. With the smell came vultures, leading them to believe they would find an animal carcass lying somewhere in the sand. The couple walked approximately 200 yards into the desert between North St. Patrick Road and North Mighty Lane when they spotted human remains.

The Marana Police Department arrived on the scene just after 8 a.m. According to Sgt. Bill Derfus, the body was badly decomposed, thus making it impossible to make an immediate identification. Age, race, and gender were also unclear. Derfus told reporters it appeared as though the body had been in the desert for about three weeks. He said animals had dragged it approximately 10 yards from its initial position.

When the Pima County Sheriff's Department learned of the discovery, they contacted Tracy's parents, who then provided the medical examiner with their daughter's medical records. Yesterday Derfus announced that the medical examiner had used dental charts to positively identify the victim as Tracy Beth Feltes.
