The court also heard from Thomas Hawks' cousin, Bob Gayl. He read a letter written by Jackie's parents, who were not in court.

"My daughter Jackie and son-in-law Tom were hard working, caring and very generous people. They would do anything for anyone and did...Since we can no longer see or hear my daughter Jackie and Tom, we hope that the defendant is denied visitation with her children. They don't need to know people like her and her husband. I hope you get life in prison since you helped sentence my daughter to death," the letter said in part.

No one spoke on Jennifer's behalf. Her attorney, Jeremy Goldman, said he wanted the record to reflect that Jennifer had divorced Skylar and had returned to her maiden name of Henderson.

Skylar's trial will also include co-defendant John F. Kennedy, a Los Angeles gang member who threw the Hawkses overboard. Prosecutor Murphy is seeking the death penalty against both men. Two other men will also be tried but don't face the death penalty because they are cooperating with the prosecution.
