A Pattern of Student Jihad?

Houssein Zorkot's arrest is part of what some terrorism experts see as a relatively new pattern of radicalized students turning into terrorists.

On August 4, sheriff's deputies in South Carolina stopped two men driving near the Charleston Naval Weapons Station. Inside the men's car, deputies found pipe bombs and a box of ammunition. The two men were identified as Ahmed Abdellatif Sherif Mohamed, a 24-year-old engineering graduate student at the University of South Florida, and Youssef Samir Megahed, a 21-year-old engineering undergraduate from the same school. Both men are from Egypt.

FBI agents eventually charged both with illegally transporting explosives across state lines, and Mohamed with an additional terrorism-related charge involving explosives and weapons of mass destruction.

In August 2006, police in Ohio stopped two recently graduated high school students from Dearborn, Michigan. Inside the men's car, police found $11,000 in cash and 12 untraceable cell phones, along with airline passenger lists and sensitive airport security information.
