The Murder  

At the Chemtron guest house, Arthur Paiva held Janet captive until Nelson and Lynch returned.  Then the party got started.

During the next few hours, according to investigators, at least 15 to 20 people—including six female motel employees—gathered at security supervisor Paiva's guest house, and nearly all of them either participated in or witnessed the beating, rape, and eventual strangulation murder of Janet Chandler.

According to Detective VanLopik's affidavit: "Laurie Swank (Janet's roommate and boss at the Blue Mill Inn) has admitted to investigators that she was present at the guest house during the incident, and that she verbally assaulted Janet as she was being beaten and raped.  Laurie admitted that she knew Janet was going to be killed and was present when Janet died."

Swank also said she saw Paiva rape Janet. 

Another witness told police that while Paiva was raping Janet—whose eyes and mouth had been covered with duct tape—the security boss shouted at her, "You're going to die, bitch.  You're going to die."

According to investigators, when Paiva finished, he encouraged other guards to take turns raping Janet.

Security guards Ron Wyrick and Robert Lynch told investigators they saw fellow guard Freddie Parker also rape Janet. 

One witness said Parker took off his belt and wrapped it around Janet's neck.  A female witness described how Nelson, Lynch, and Parker used the belt to repeatedly choke Janet into unconsciousness while they beat and raped her. 

The witness told investigators that the three guards "were whipping and slapping Janet, and had oral, anal and vaginal intercourse" with her.

Another female motel employee present at the guest house "advised investigators she observed James Nelson raping Janet, with Janet on her stomach and her hands restrained behind her back, while Nelson enforced intercourse."

Still another female employee "reported to investigators that James Nelson forced Janet to perform oral sex on him while he, Nelson, pulled on the belt which was around Janet's neck."

Security guard Anthony Williams reportedly masturbated while he watched fellow guards rape Janet.  Later, Williams was seen choking Janet with a belt while forcing her to perform oral sex on him.

Once everyone finished, Lynch choked Janet to death.

"Ultimately," Detective VanLopik wrote in his affidavit, "Janet Chandler died at the hands of Robert Michael Lynch, through his own admission, as well as those reports by others present."
