GREEN BAY, Wis. (Crime Library) — Yesterday morning a Green Bay patrol officer discovered a set of tire tracks leading into the Fox River on the west bank, along the route where Mahalia Xiong, 21, mysteriously disappeared nearly two weeks ago. Following the discovery a dive team was called to the scene to search the murky waters for any signs of a motor vehicle. Less than an hour later the divers confirmed that there was a car upside-down and submerged in about 25 feet of water. As news of the find reached the airways Mahalia's family members began to gather around the riverbank — fearing the worst, but hoping for the best.

A large commercial crane was brought to the scene and just before 2:00 p.m., a white, four-door, Mercury Sable was raised from the bottom of the river. Everyone's fears became a reality when they saw the license plate on the rear of the car — TFD-715 — letters and numbers that were all too familiar to both investigators and Mahalia's family.
Following the discovery, the Green Bay Police Department issued a press release confirming the identity of the vehicle.

"We have officially identified the vehicle as the 1996 Mercury Sable that was driven by Mahalia Xiong when she was last seen leaving the Ashwaubenon Bowling Lanes in the early morning hours of July 13, 2007. Located inside the vehicle was the body of a female. No formal identification has been made at this point. Our Detectives are in the process of investigating the manner and cause of death. As soon as a positive I.D. has been made and the immediate family has been notified, the name of the female will be released."
