BRIDGEPORT, CT.  Prosecutors have filed a motion in Superior Court requesting a single trial for accused serial killer Emanuel Lovell Webb.  On Feb. 14, Webb was extradited from Georgia to Bridgeport for allegedly murdering four women during the early 1990s.  At the time, Webb was already behind bars in Georgia, where he was serving a prison sentence for murdering a woman in 1994, during what he described as "wild sex."  According to court documents, a cold case squad in Connecticut used DNA evidence to link Webb to the murders of Elizabeth Gandy, 34; Sharon Cunningham, 39; Minnie Sutton, 37; and Sheila Etheridge, 29.

HEILBRONN, Germany — Investigators have used DNA evidence to link a serial killer to at least three murders and multiple other crimes over the last 14 years, in Germany, France, and Austria.  In an unexpected twist, authorities were able to determine they are looking for a female suspect, whom they have dubbed the Phantom of Heilbronn.  The first known murder occurred in 1993, when Lieselotte Schlenger, 62, was killed with wire used to bind bouquets of flowers.  The next murder attributed to the Phantom occurred in 2001, when the killer allegedly strangled Jozef Walzenbach, 61, in Freiburg.  The most recent murder was in April of this year when the Phantom's DNA was linked to the shooting death of a female police officer and the attempted murder of a second male police officer.  The investigation is ongoing.

NAMIBIA, South Africa — Police have enlisted the help of a serial killer profiler to help them catch an elusive killer who has murdered four women since August 2005.  In two of the cases, the victims were dismembered.  Three of the victims have been identified as Melanie Janse, 22; Juanita Mabula, 21; and Viola Swartbooi, 18.  The fourth and most recent victim — found dismembered less than two weeks ago — has not yet been identified.  Police refuse to comment on the status of the investigation.
