On June 9, a search team consisting of nearly 100 volunteers was scouring the grounds behind the old Pleasant Street School when one of the search parties noticed an area that appeared to have recently been uprooted. Upon closer examination, authorities confirmed the search party's suspicions when they discovered human remains just under the surface. According to a spokesman for the Spencer Police Department, the remains have been identified as Cheri Robinson.

"This was the final chapter in a terrible tragedy," District Attorney Early told WHDH-TV. "We hope this provides some solace for the family."
Police Chief David Darrin described the murder-suicide as "a horrible tragedy for the family and friends of Cheri Robinson and the whole town of Spencer."
Police refuse to speculate on how Cheri was murdered. The county medical examiner conducted an autopsy yesterday, but the results are still pending.
