SPENCER, Mass. (Crime Library) — Police are asking for the public's help in locating 35-year-old Cheri Robinson.  Earlier this month, Cheri's husband, 40-year-old Paul Robinson, told authorities that he had harmed his wife.  After providing police with vague details, during a police standoff, Robinson took his own life.  Authorities have been unable to find any trace of Cheri.

On May 15, 2007, Cheri's coworkers at Allegro Microsystems Inc. notified police that she had failed to show up for work for several days in a row.  This type of behavior was not typical of Cheri.  In the 17 years that she had worked for the company, she had never been out a day without having called in.  Her friends became even more concerned when they were unable to reach her at home.  When police went to Cheri's apartment, no one answered the door, so they left, with the intention of returning at a later time.  Approximately 30 minutes later, Cheri's husband placed a call to the Spencer Police Department.

Robinson wanted to know why police had been knocking on his door.  As the conversation progressed, he became agitated, and told police that he may have "hurt" his wife a few days earlier.  He also said that he was armed with a gun.  When the dispatcher notified her supervisor of Robinson's chilling admissions, the decision was made to dispatch the Special Tactical Operations Team to surround Robinson's School Street apartment.

After police arrived on the scene, Robinson gave them some details about where his wife could be found.  Police have not revealed the details of the conversation, nor have they indicated whether he admitted murdering her.  Some media reports suggest that Robinson was very vague in terms of his details and directions in terms of how to find Cheri.

Police managed to keep Robinson on the phone for nearly three hours.  However, he eventually grew tired of the standoff.  Realizing there was no easy way out, Robinson told police he was going to send his two children, a girl, 9, and a boy, 11, out of the apartment.
