However, Scott Moore and Commissioner Josh Jordan, who is black, do not agree with Lambert.  Both men cited the First Amendment right to free speech.

"I don't see any need to cancel it," Jordan said.  "It is freedom of speech.  It's unfortunate they are coming to town.  It's not going to affect minorities.  It's not going to dictate who we are.  Knoxville is a strong place, and we can overcome words."

The full commission will vote on the resolution May 29.

This past week, both victims' parents started to speak with the media about the murders.  When Crime Library first brought you this story, we mentioned the victims' alleged mutilations that were published on the Internet.  At that time, authorities would not confirm or deny they took place.  However, since then, the victims' families have denied the mutilations took place and have blamed hate groups for twisting the facts and feeding the media misinformation.

"They were not dismembered," Mary Newsom told Crime Library during a telephone interview yesterday afternoon.  "That is defiantly not the case.  We have been assured by the police and the coroner that [Christopher and Channon] were not dismembered at all."

Christopher's mom said she is devastated by the loss of her son and that she will never recover from it.  In regards to the suspects, Mary said, "They look like they have no remorse whatsoever.  They are animals.  Absolute animals."

Mary also made it clear her family would not be involved in the purposed race rally scheduled for next month.  "We are not interested in participating at all with any of the race groups that are coming here," she said.
