Washington Court House, Ohio (Crime Library) — It was close to 6:30 in the morning on Monday, May 22, 2006, when emergency services arrived at 621 Willabar Drive in Washington Court House, a town in southwestern Ohio. There they found a home in flames. A little boy, Shane Gault, age 9, was still inside the home. Found on the street outside was his father, also named Shane Gault, age 34. The younger Gault was dead. The father held a knife, was nude, and had injuries of his own.

Washington Court House police later said they believed the elder Gault's wounds were self-inflicted.
If Shane Gault Sr.'s MySpace profile was any truthful indication of what his life was like before that Monday morning, he was a divorced single father devoted to just a few things: his son; women; sports, specifically football; and NASCAR. The URL for Shane Gault Sr.'s MySpace was www.myspace.com/drshane08.
A visit to the webpage revealed it to be heavy with images of the things Gault stated he liked. One example was an image of the iconic number 3 of legendary late NASCAR giant Dale Earnhardt switching to a number 8, the number used by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
