Cops Turn To The Internet For Clues to Robert Scott Burdettes Murder

Could Burdette Have Met His Killers in Cyberspace?

In fact, Miller says, for the moment, he wants to keep all of his cards close to the vest, fearing that an injudicious statement might compromise his investigation.

Still, it is clear that authorities are exploring several theories regarding Burdette's slaying. Among them are questions about whether Burdette, a man who according to Mississippi journalist and family friend Paul South was well regarded by his business colleagues and hailed from a close knit and religious family, may have been targeted for death because of some secret debt or bad business relationship. Authorities are also trying to determine whether the divorced Burdette, who apparently dated infrequently, may have been killed for some as yet obscure personal reason.

But there is another, equally tantalizing theory. Authorities have not ruled out the possibility that Burdette may have accidentally stumbled across his killers while cruising the Internet. "That's a possibility, along with other possibilities," Miller said. "I don't want to pin it down to that."

Investigators are taking the idea seriously enough that they are searching Burdette's computer and his hard drive looking for possible clues.
