Nicole Beecroft Murders Her Newborn Child, Stabbing Her 135 Times

By David Lohr

She also filled out a survey on her profile.  She answered some basic questions about life, and wrote about experimenting with drugs and alcohol.  In response to the question "Number of things in my Past I Regret," she wrote:  "Not to many things!"  Perhaps she will want to update that, if she ever manages to walk out of jail.

Beecroft's friends are shocked by her actions.  Shortly after news of her arrest broke, I spoke with several of them through MySpace.

"I'm in shock.  I was messenging [sic] her yesterday and now today she is behind bars.  I never even knew she was pregnant.  She never said a word, at least not to me anyway.  How could I not know?  It boggles my mind.  She was always nice to everyone.  She never acted mean or anything.  She's the last person you would expect to do something like this.  She must have been in shock from the birth.  I don't know what else could have caused her to do this.  I wish I could have been there for her."

"Well this is my perspective; I have been pregnant and have had a baby already.  I didn't do what she did obviously and I love my son dearly.  When I first got pregnant I was ashamed, I thought all the other girls would look at me as a slut or whore.  It was hard to tell my parents because they didn't even know I was having sex or anything plus they are really strict so I had no idea what they would do or say if they found out I was pregnant. Of course I got passed that point and told them and everyone else.  But the only thing that I can think of is that she can probably relate to that.

"It's a very scary situation of telling people as a young female that you are pregnant.  A lot of people look down on that, even though it is very common.  She probably was stressed a little bit because she knew she was probably due soon and still had no idea how to tell her parents or even anyone at tartan besides her best friends.  It is sad what she did, but I kind of understand why she was so scared.  There was so many options open for her to not have the baby like the hospital thing, abortion or even adoption.  I do not agree on what she did at all.  But at the moment I don't believe she realized what she was doing because she was so scared."

Regardless of the motive, this case is eerily similar to that of Melissa Drexler's.  In 1997, Drexler gave birth to a baby boy in a bathroom stall during her senior prom.  Afterwards she placed the infant in a garbage can and returned to her friends.  No one, not even her closest friends, knew she was pregnant.  For her crime, Drexler was sentenced to fifteen years' imprisonment.   She served just 37 months, and was released on parole.
