LaFAYETTE, Ga. (Crime Library) —  Law enforcement officials announced at a Tuesday press conference the arrest of a police officer in connection with the case of the missing 911 operator who disappeared two weeks ago.

Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson said investigators arrested Corporal Harbin "Ben" Chaffin at approximately 9:00 Monday night and charged him with giving false statements to police officers, a felony under Georgia law.

The false statements came in response to questions investigators asked Chaffin about the disappearance of 41-year-old Theresa Parker. Theresa was last seen at about 9:00 p.m. on March 21 as she left her sister's house.

Sam Parker has been with the LaFayette Police Department for more than 20 years.

LaFayette Public Safety Director Tommy Freeman said he believes Parker and Chaffin are friends. Freeman, who, as the city's public safety director, is also in charge of the police department, said that in addition to criminal charges, Chaffin faces an internal department investigation.
