LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler has sentenced "60 Freeway Slayer" Ivan J. Hill, 45, to death for the murder of six prostitutes during a three-month span in 1993 and 1994. Hill was connected to the killings in 2003, when his information was entered in a DNA database. According to Fidler, there was ''overwhelming'' evidence linking Hill to the crimes. When asked by the judge if he had anything to say for himself, Hill replied "No, your honor."

EUROPE — Authorities have announced that Volker Eckert, 48, is a suspect in at least 19 murders or attempted murders, between 1974, when he was just 15-years-old, and 2006. A native of Germany who was employed as a truck driver, Eckert was arrested last year, when a surveillance camera caught him disposing of a body. Following his arrest, he confessed to five other murders in Spain, France and Germany. Authorities say most of Eckert's victims were involved in prostitution. The investigation continues.

CHIBA, Japan — The Chiba District Court has sentenced Tetsuo Odajima, 63, to death for six counts of murder. Prosecutors say Odajima committed his first series of homicides on Aug. 5, 2002, when he murdered Takaichi Mabuchi, 66, his wife Etsuko, 66 and his daughter Yuka, 40. The following month, Odajima murdered Fumio Aoyagi, 71, a dentist from Tokyo. Odajima waited till Nov. 21, 2006, before he struck again and murdered Kimie Oshima, 65 at her home in Abiko. Odajima has already filed an appeal.
