Hill's boyfriend, Antonio King, was incredulous. "I can't imagine anyone wanting to do this to her," he said. He couldn't think of anyone who wanted her dead.

Lt. Ketelsleger said that police have looked into both King and Hill's ex-husband, Kevin Hill, but neither are suspects at this point.

However, court documents tell a bitter story.

The Hills fought over custody of Hill's son, Dylan, from a previous marriage. In a Nov. 15, 2005 memo, Amber asked the judge to absolve Hill's custody rights for the 3-year-old boy because Hill had two guns in the house that he used for target practice in the back yard.

"Kevin even sent him home with a toy gun that he wants to point at people, the dog and himself, this is a very scary thought for a mother," Amber wrote. "I am willing to have Kevin see Dylan under supervision until I feel comfortable otherwise."

Hill filed his own response, saying that Dylan was forced to share a small one-bedroom apartment with Amber and King and the boy spent up to 11 hours a day in daycare. Hill said his live-in fiancée has three little girls and is a stay-at-home mom.
