Investigators also learned that one of Sariyah's grandmothers had called police in November of last year to report that the children were being abused.  The case was referred to CPS, but they purportedly failed to investigate the allegations.

A spokesperson for the agency claims that an investigator had made over 40 attempts to locate Lopez between November and March; however, residents of Lopez's former apartment building balk at those claims, asserting that Lopez always hung out on her front porch.  Some neighbors also claim they told CPS where Lopez worked and when they could find her there.

After talking with Lopez's friends, family members and neighbors, investigators considered her and her boyfriend both persons of interest in the murders, and a massive manhunt was launched to find the two suspects.

On Saturday at about 5 a.m., the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force tracked Lopez and Salazar to a shack behind an apartment complex, not far from the triplex where the children's bodies were found.  The couple had spent the last four days hiding out in the small tool shed.  Neither of them resisted arrest, and they were both taken into custody without incident.

According to an affidavit for an arrest warrant, Lopez told police that her daughter "would not stop crying, so (she) repeatedly struck (Sariyah) about the head and body... Instead of calling for medical attention, (she) wrapped (Sariyah) in a blanket, wrapped the blanket with tape and placed the child in a trash bag."  Afterwards, she placed the trash bag under her apartment.  The incident allegedly occurred on Christmas Eve.
