Yesterday, Victorian Homicide Squad Detective Sergeant Chris Dorman described the arrest in an interview with The Advertiser.  According to Dorman, the arrest took place at a residence in Rosebud West.  "A [48-year-old] male came to the front door . . . I asked for his details and told him he was under arrest for the murder of Carly Ryan," Dorman said.  "He was handcuffed, and one of my detectives and two of the Adelaide detectives escorted him back to the Rosebud police station."  Authorities conducted a thorough search of the residence and seized multiple items, including a motor vehicle, a computer, and clothing.

Both suspects appeared in brief hearings yesterday to hear the charges against them.  According to a South Australia Police press release, the man will be brought before a Melbourne Magistrates Court on Monday at 10:00 a.m., and the teen will be appearing in the Melbourne Children's Court also at 10:00 a.m.  At those hearings, police will ask the court to extradite both suspects to South Australia.

Carly's body was discovered floating by the Horseshoe Bay shoreline on the morning of February 20 by a woman walking along the beach.  Police found jewelry and signs of a disturbance at a nearby area called Freeman's Knob.  The day after the discovery, Victor Harbor Police announced that an autopsy had been conducted and that Carly's death had been ruled a homicide. Police have refused to comment on how she died and would not confirm reports that she had been attacked and then left to drown.

Carly was described as "a loving, caring, and charismatic young lady who had a great sense of humour [sic] and tremendous strength of character" in an obituary that appeared in South Australia newspapers on Saturday.  "Her love of art and drawing, passion for music, unique fashion, and her love for her family, especially her mum, will be forever remembered with love. Carly stood out from the crowd."

Investigators are trying to piece together Carly's last movements on February 19 and 20. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
