MELBOURNE, Australia (Crime Library ) —  Authorities have made arrests in the death of 15-year-old Carly Ryan.  Detective Superintendent Peter Woite from the Major Crime Investigation Branch announced that a 48-year-old man and a 17-year-old, believed to be the man's son, have been charged with Carly's death.  Australian media outlets have been banned from releasing the identity of the two suspects.

The investigation into the two men began last week after a witness came forward and reported seeing a car with Victorian registration plates parked near Horseshoe Bay on the night of Carly's murder.  Police then matched the vehicle's description to one owned by a Melbourne man who had recently exchanged messages with Carly on the social networking website MySpace.com.  Last week, Crime Library identified that person as "Brandon," a man Carly's friends thought to be in his twenties or thirties.

The suspect had recently deleted his MySpace page, but there is an older cache of it on Google dating from January 20.  Entries include the following:

"I may not be a kid anymore, but I tend to act much younger than I am, and never ever call this a mid-life crisis.  To me, there is no such thing.  All throughout our lives, we are going through changes, even people in their late teens and early 20s do.  It's called evolution.  I am very forthright and self-opinionated, and this annoys some people, but they can either live with it or hate it.  Either way, they are not going to change me.

"I was in the military for a number of years and left there as a commando . . . I am divorced and have custody of a beautiful and loving 18-year-old son . . . I do go for women somewhat younger than me usually . . . I like piercings, someone sexually adventurous, and a great sense of humor is a must!"
