Court Papers Detail Cooperation Between Beautician and the Beast

The case first burst into the public consciousness two weeks ago when Tanya Kach, now 26, and living under the name Nikki Evans surfaced at a local deli and confided that she was actually Kach, the young girl who had, everyone believed, been abducted or run away from home a decade earlier.

The local police summoned the county's Sex Assault and Child Abuse Unit, and after a lengthy interview with Kach, a bizarre tale of sex, and imprisonment began to emerge.

According to court papers, Kach said she was just an eighth grader at Cornell Middle School in McKeesport when she first became involved with Hose, then in his late thirties and living in his parents' house. It was October, she had told investigators, and she had skipped a class and was hiding in a stairwell when Hose approached her. "While standing there talking, they started kissing," the court papers continue.

What passed for a relationship between a middle aged man and a pubescent girl began, the court papers allege, "with her calling him and Hose calling her."

Six months after their first encounter, the court papers allege, Kach had apparently agreed to run away from home to be with Hose. "The arrangements were made with Judy Sokolshe was running away from home and (would) stay at Sokol's home until Hose's parents were out of the house and she was instructed to come to his house."

On Feb. 10, 1996, the plan went into action. Because she was a runaway, but was bound to remain within two miles of her home, Hose and she arranged with Sokol to change the young girl's appearance. He also changed her name, calling her Nikki, and in fact, according to the court papers, it was under that name that he at last introduced her to his parents. As planned, with a new haircut and hair color, the young girl spent her nights in Sokol's home, often with Hose, the court papers allege. As she told investigators, "during the next month or so, Hose and her (sic) would sneak over (to) Sokol's residence to stay the night and in fact this was the (the) location that (they) first engagedin vaginal intercourse."
