JACKSONVILLE, Fla.(Crime Library) — There were almost 30 murders so far this year, but only one has received national media attention. Twenty-three-year-old nursing student Sarah Whitlock was stabbed to death in her Riverside apartment Friday night, March 10 between 10:30 p.m. and midnight.

Whitlock was found by a friend shortly after midnight. The male friend has been cleared of any involvement.

One of the tips that came into the Jacksonville Sheriff's Department was from another student nurse, according to First Coast News. The woman was at a meeting at the elementary school in the neighborhood when a tall man with blonde hair came into the room. He was wearing a T-shirt with a plumbing company ad on it.

He asked the student nurse to look at his foot, which he told her was a strange color, the woman told police. She told him to consult a doctor, but he followed her to her car nonetheless.

Yesterday, Asst. Chief Rick Graham of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office announced at a press conference yesterday that they believe Whitlock's killer may have gained entrance to her apartment by posing as a police officer. He urged residents to be careful of anyone claiming to be an undercover police officer.
