LIVINGSTON, Mont. (Crime Library) — The mother of missing Montana teenager Heather "Brianna" Wilkins said her daughter's relationship with her long-time boyfriend had changed just before she disappeared and that the two were "separating."

Cheryl "Chera" Walsh told Crime Library Tuesday that although her daughter, 18-year-old Brianna Wilkins, thought that she and her boyfriend, 16-year-old Montana Standish, might eventually get married, Brianna confided in her that Standish had some growing up to do before that could happen and that the couple needed to spend some time apart.

Standish arrived in Livingston, Mont. to visit Brianna on Jan. 11.  A few hours later, Brianna left her mother's house to take a walk and meditate and has not been heard from since, according to Chera Walsh.

Walsh said that when Standish arrived in Livingston, Brianna was cool toward him.  "She just didn't want to get real close to him because they were separating and she wanted some space."

Standish noticed the difference in Brianna's behavior and grabbed his backpack to leave just a few hours after he arrived, but then changed his mind and decided to stay, Walsh said.  It was shortly after that, Walsh recalled, that her daughter, then 17, picked up a bottle of water and walked out the door.

"She loved Montana, but she didn't want to be in a physical relationship," Walsh explained.  "She just felt too young."
