They also found used diapers, which Nowak later admitted she urinated in so she wouldn't have to stop during the nearly 1,000-mile drive from Houston to Orlando.

Nowak, a mother of three who recently separated from her husband of 19 years, admitted to police that she drove to Orlando to find Shipman and to scare her, but denied she intended to hurt her. Nowak said she only wanted to talk to Shipman about her relationship with Oefelein. Nowak told Orlando police Detective William Becton that she was involved in a relationship with fellow astronaut William Oefelein. According to Becton's report, the connection between Nowak and Oefelein was "more than a working relationship, but less than a romantic relationship."

In a police report Becton filed Tuesday, the detective wrote: "The fact that Mrs. Nowak drove approximately 900 miles, urinated in diapers so that she did not need to stop, stayed at a hotel where she paid cash and used a false name and address to register, stealthily followed the victim, while in disguise, and possessed multiple deadly weapons at the time she confronted the victim, as well as spraying the victim with a substance meant to disable a person, create a well-founded fear and give this investigator probable cause to believe that Mrs. Nowak intended to murder Ms. Shipman."

Monday, Shipman filed for a restraining order against Nowak. In her petition, Shipman claimed Nowak had been stalking her for two months.
