Crash and Burn
Until Monday, U.S. Navy Capt. Lisa Nowak's life was that of an American hero.
The Maryland native graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1985 with a degree in aerospace engineering, and later earned a master's degree in aeronautical engineering. As a Navy pilot, Nowak has logged more than 1,500 hours in 30 aircraft, attended the Navy's elite "Top Gun" school, and served as a mission specialist onboard the space shuttle Discovery during a 13-day mission to the International Space Station in July.
In the predawn hours of Monday morning, Nowak's hero status was forever shattered when police arrested her lurking in a parking lot at the Orlando International Airport.
According to a police report filed Monday, two Orlando police officers responded to a call from a woman who said she had been attacked in the parking lot.

Captain Colleen Shipman |
The woman, U.S. Air Force Captain Colleen Shipman, said she had just returned on a late-night flight from Houston when she noticed a dark-haired woman wearing glasses and a hooded trench coat following her. When Shipman got into her car the woman ran up to the driver's side door and tried to open it. When she couldn't open it, the woman pounded on the window and begged Shipman to help her.
