WESTMORELAND, Penn. (Crime Library) — There have been new developments in the disappearance of 16-year-old Arley Earhart.  According to her mother, Arley telephoned family members four times in the past week to let them know she is okay and not in danger.

"She made a few phone calls and it was recorded.  She said that she is okay and that she is sorry," Renee McCleary said in a telephone interview with Crime Library yesterday afternoon.  "She sounded okay but I don't know.  We still don't know where she is or who has her."

McCleary said that while the calls did come as a great relief, she is discouraged that the Latrobe Police Department is now considering Arley a runaway.

"They said there isn't much more they can do at this point.  They said she would come out when she's ready.  They don't feel she is in danger at this time."

According to McCleary, Arley called her a sibling in Arizona first and then called home.  All of the calls were placed when family members were unavailable to answer the calls and the messages were left on answering machines.  According to authorities, all of the calls came from the local area.

"She called my daughter in Arizona then she called me.  She said she was trying to get in touch to let us know she was okay and not in any trouble.  I felt very relieved about that, but at the same time that has been awhile now.  They [the Latrobe Police Department] asked us not to go public about the calls, in hopes she might think we did not get the messages.  That she might call back.  But she hasn't called back."
