Alberta, Canada — Last week authorities charged Thomas George Svekla, 38, with the murders of two prostitutes. A task force is currently examining other unsolved disappearances and murders to see if Svekla might be connected to those as well. Svekla's attorney, Robert Shaigec, spoke briefly with the Edmonton Sun today: "Our position is very clear: Mr. Svekla is not responsible for these deaths and he looks forward to his opportunity coming very quickly to begin defending these charges Monday morning in court." A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for next week.

HYDERABAD, India — Two decomposed bodies were discovered in a municipal garbage dump last week and today a third body was found in the same general area. All of the victim's heads had been smashed beyond recognition, leading authorities to suspect a serial killer is responsible. Over 20 people have been brought in for questioning, but no arrests have been made. The investigation continues.
HWASEONG, Korea — Between 1986 and 1991, ten women were murdered under similar circumstances, suggesting a serial killer was responsible. The murders were never solved and as time went by the case files became buried under more pressing matters.
Now, 15 years later, authorities think they may have another killer working the same area. During the last three weeks, two women have disappeared after leaving their jobs in the town of Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province. Both women's cell phones were traced to a location not far from where the 10 serial killings took place.
At this time, there is no way of knowing whether these latest cases might be connected to the previous unsolved murders. It is interesting to note that there is a 15-year statute of limitations for murder in Korea, so even if they do catch that killer, he can never be prosecuted for those murders.
