Jon Benet Ramsey Marked First Time The Internet Played A Critical Role in Probe
By Steve Huff
The Crime Library — People were studying and discussing high-profile crimes in the news on the internet when JonBenét Ramsey was murdered over 9 years ago. The explosion of weblogging and personal networking via the Internet brought 'evidence' to the fingertips of the websurfing public. No longer was a lone detective reading the journal of a missing girl for some clue as to her whereabouts — now anyone who knew that Taylor Behl's Livejournal.com screen name was "jailbait" spelled in reverse — "tiabliaj" — could read for themselves.

Recent crimes in the news where weblogs and sites may be an integral part of the story:
— On January 24, 2006, crimelibrary.com author and popular blogger Dan Riehl reported in his weblog, www.riehlworldview.com, about the death of 14-year-old Judy Cajuste. Cajuste was reported missing on January 12, 2006. Her body was found in a dumpster in New Jersey. The teen was nude and had been strangled to death. Judy Cajuste had an account at myspace.com. New Jersey authorities are studying Cajuste's computer for clues. It is thought that even though Judy Cajuste's page was set to 'private' — inaccessible to the general public — she may have met an older man from Newark, NJ through her myspace.com.
